A great Phuket beach for surfing

July 11th, 2008  Posted by Phuket Vogue

We’ve never been able to decide what our favorite Phuket beach is. If you’re coming to Phuket, you’ll probably want to know which Phuket beach is worthy of your time and attention. If you’re into surfing, then the ideal Phuket beach for you might well be Kata Beach.

Just take a look at the size of these waves at this Phuket beach. Look like you could hang five off those? Kata is one Phuket beach often frequented by Phuket’s surfing community. Although this Phuket beach might not be the best place for swimming, for water sports, the conditions are great.

During high season, the waves can be rather tame, but once the winds kick up and the low season is in full swing, conditions are about as good as you’ll find on the island. Kata Beach is also a really great spot for beach lovers in general.

What’s your favorite Phuket beach and why do you like it?

Chilling at Cape Panwa in Phuket

July 10th, 2008  Posted by Phuket Vogue

Cape Panwa is one of the most beautiful locations in Phuket. Cape Panwa is a great spot to stay because it’s far removed from the craziness of Patong Beach and it has some of the most stunning views in all of Phuket.

One of our favorite Cape Panwa hotels and resorts is Sri Panwa. Not only do they offer great accommodation at Sri Panwa, but at Baba Dining Lounge, there are some really hip parties.

There are also pool parties held at Sri Panwa every now and then. There’s no better setting for a party than at Sri Panwa overlooking Cape Panwa and beyond. Here’s a video taken from one of the recent pool parties held at Sri Panwa. Thai superstars Montonn Jira and Joni Anwar dropped by to perform as Katsue.

If you’ve never been to Cape Panwa, you must check it out. Although it’s all the way down in the south of Phuket, it’s definitely worth making the effort to travel to.

New Year’s Eve in Phuket

July 9th, 2008  Posted by Phuket Vogue

New Year’s Eve in Phuket is always a memorable affair, not least of all because of the sheer number of fireworks that are let off over the course of the entire night and well into the morning. The scene at Patong Beach is something you have to see to really believe. Fireworks whiz off in every direction, even into crowds of people from time to time. Short of anyone receiving third-degree burns, Phuket is a great place to spend New Year’s Eve.

Being the main party zone of Phuket, Patong Beach is chock full of people running left, right and center, spraying silly string on each other, and all sorts. As it’s about to hit midnight, everyone at Patong Beach heads down to the beach road to watch the fireworks. It’s a great atmosphere down at Patong Beach when everyone is cheering and celebrating.

This video shows the scene from Kata Viewpoint, which is between Kata Beach and Rawai Beach. You get a really good impression of what New Year’s Eve is like in Phuket.

Surfing at Nai Harn Beach

July 5th, 2008  Posted by Phuket Vogue

Here’s a video of some folks surfing down at Nai Harn Beach. Surfing is definitely one of the most popular activities for people during low season. Everyone from tourists to locals seems to get involved in surfing, or else wakeboarding, kite surfing or other wave activities.

During low season, the wind in Phuket picks up and the waves become larger. Phuket is not the perfect surf destination, but it’s good enough that there are surf contests held every year.
