Ad: 99/99 Chalermprakiat R.9n Road, Kathu (opposite Tesco-Lotus supermarket). Tel: 076-612885-8

Phuket Brewery is a new show-and-entertainment venue and a welcome addition to the Phuket Town nightlife scene. It has all the best elements of a pub, a restaurant and a theater rolled into one. This is a decent place to check out a local scene. The brewery is located directly opposite Tesco-Lotus in Phuket Town. Inside the brewery there is a massive hall with a huge stage and a seating capacity of more than 1,000 along with VIP rooms for private groups.

The nightly show starts at 7 pm. Entertainment comes in many forms, such as live music, magic shows, juggling, acrobatics and traditional Southern Thai dance. You can kick back with dinner and be entertained for an entire night. What’s more, admission is free.

The Phuket brewery has its own beer, Pearl Beer, brewed in-house at a micro-brewery. A one-liter jug of beer will cost you around 250 to 350 baht depending on your style. There are three different kinds of Pearl Beer: a lager, a dark beer and a wheat beer. If you don’t like beer, there is also a cocktail menu. The food menu has various Thai dishes, including deep-fried pork knuckle –- brewery style. Delicious.

Phuket Brewery is occasionally used a venue to host special events, such as concerts. Famous Thai bands like Sek Loso and Carabao have graced the stage in recent months. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Thai bands, the big concerts are always worth checking out. Cheap beer and a crowd of excited locals usually make for a good night’s fun.

If there is a special event on, tickets are about 150 to 250 baht, which will include a drink. Also, every Thursday night is ladies’ night, which means all females get a special cocktail for free. Oddly, there’s also a hoteliers’ night on Mondays. Show your hotelier ID card and get a 15% discount.

While it may be a bit on the expensive side, Siam Indigo in Phuket Town is a real treat. The restaurant is warm and inviting, with striking artwork adorning the walls. The staff is attentive and keen to cater to your every need. Eating at this Phuket Town restaurant is a real dining experience.

Siam Indigo specializes in Thai-Chinese fusion dishes, presented in a small yet concise menu, with New Zealand lamb, green mussels and marinated pork satay all on the menu. The massaman is also rather tasty.

Some people hang out at Siam Indigo just for the sake of being there. There are sofas if you feel like just having a drink and watching the world go by.

Siam Indigo is definitely one of the top restaurants in Phuket Town. The whole dining experience is polished and the food is superb. It’s the sort of place you could take a date to and where you’ll feel a bit out of place if you turn up in shorts and flip flops.

There are some great Phuket Town restaurants. Located next door to Salvatore’s is a cute little restaurant called Anna’s Cafe. The restaurant looks quaint – almost English – but the food is Thai through and through.

Forgo other restaurants nearby and make the effort to visit Anna’s Cafe in Phuket Town. The food is outstanding. This type of restaurant is best enjoyed with a group of friends, each of whom orders one dish to share.

Phuket Town restaurants don’t come much better than this. We particularly recommend the massaman and geng som — two delicious curries that will have your tastebuds tingling.

After you’ve had your fill of Thai food, you can check out the dessert menu. Anna’s also has a range of fruit smoothies that are pretty good. Although you pay a little bit more for your food than you would from a street vendor, the extra cost is definitely worth it and still a lot cheaper than feasting out at Western restaurants.

Like 154, Red Onion is located in Royal Phuket City. Thankfully the food a little better than at 154. Like many other places to eat in Phuket, Red Onion features an array of Thai dishes with a healthy ensemble of international meals to choose from.

For what you get, the food at this restaurant in Phuket City is a little overpriced. Choose from roasted duck, pork fillet, lamb chop and sirloin steak, among other favourites.

As with most of the places to eat at Royal Phuket City Hotel, the atmosphere at this restaurant is a little dry, so we don’t recommend eating there unless you are actually staying at Royal Phuket City. Otherwise, why bother?

Being up on the 19th floor of Royal Phuket City, Red Onion is a restaurant with a decent view, although it’s perhaps not quite as romantic as you might imagine.

154 is a pretty dull coffee shop in Phuket City. As far as the food goes, it used to be a lot better than it is now. We’re unsure why there has been such a downturn in the quality, but downturn there has been.

The bakery is a little overpriced for what you get, but there are some decent cakes to try out and a few savory snacks as well. The food is otherwise forgettable. As far as sandwiches go, they are expensive and you could pretty much make them yourself by buying the ingredients from 7-Eleven. The only plus point about this Phuket bakery is that the bread they use is pretty decent.

This is one of a few restaurants in Phuket City where you can get Wi-Fi Internet access, but it’s really expensive at about 150 baht for half an hours, so it’s certainly not worth the money. There are far better restaurants in Phuket City.

For a while we thought that there were no decent sushi restaurants in Phuket outside of the larger chain stores, such as Fuji and Oishi. We discovered Shintaro sushi restaurant with much excitement.

The restaurant is located on the quiet Dibuk Road, just up from Lemongrass restaurant. The chefs and staff are all Thai, so in this sushi restaurant you don’t exactly get an authentic experience.

The ambience of the restaurant is far superior to the Fujis and Oishis of this world, especially late at night. The restaurant stays open until about 11 pm. The food is reasonable, but as far as restaurants in Phuket go, it isn’t the best.

If you’re looking for a sushi restaurant in Phuket, Shintaro is a good choice, but we’re still looking for something a little bit more exceptional.

The sashimi was nothing special, but the sushi was enjoyable. The prices are expensive for what you get. In short, the food and prices at Fuji and Oishi are better, but the atmosphere at Shintaro is superior.

Basically, it’s hard to get excited about Fuji sushi restaurants if you’ve been in Phuket for longer than about two weeks.

That being said, if you’re new to Phuket and Thailand and you want to try some cheap sushi, Fuji is just about the best place to do it. The sushi at Fuji is affordable and pretty good. These Japanese restaurants in Phuket are incredibly popular with the Thais, so you might have to fight for a seat at peak times.

When it comes to sushi in Phuket, you don’t have that many options, which is suprising given that Phuket is an island. We like Fuji, but it’s not exactly the connoisseur’s choice. The Phuket City restaurant and Patong restaurant are pretty much identical.

Maeporn Seafood restaurant in Phuket Town is a little gem, hidden away near Lullaby restaurant off Yaowarat Road. The main focus of this seafood restaurant is on lunchtime and dinnertime meals. Maeporn isn’t open late, but if you want to grab a bite to eat during the day, this is a fine place to do it.

If you visit the restaurant during lunch, you’ll notice the large number of local workers dining out there. This is a surefire sign that Maeporn offers great food. The food is Thai through and through, with lots of seafood dishes and regular dishes, too. Maeporn is a great place to sample Thai food in Phuket.

As far as restaurants in Phuket Town go, Maeporn is cheap, extremely cheerful and easygoing. The best time to visit is after the lunch-hour rush, as you will often not be able to find a seat. This is definitely one Phuket Town restaurant worth checking out.

There are surprisingly few sushi restaurants in Phuket, but if you’re looking for somewhere to eat Japanese food in Phuket, you can’t go wrong with the Oishi buffet. You pay for it, but what you get is free reign on pretty much every type of Japanese food you can imagine.

There is a fine range of sushi, sashimi, ramen and just about every form of Japanese food in between. Eat as much as you like and drink as much green tea as you can stomach.

A meal out at Oishi is a gluttonous affair, but it’s worth it if you’re a fan of sushi. Be wary that Oishi has been known to overcharge foreigners, so if you end up paying much more than 400 baht for your buffet, you could be paying over the odds.

Osihi is incredibly popular with everyone from locals to Korean tour groups, who seem to be herded in like cattle. The lunch-hour rush has to be seen to be believed.

There are two Farang Restaurants in Phuket: one in Phuket City, next to the bypass road, and one in Cherng Talay. The food at both is almost identical, but the experience at the Cherng Talay restaurant is slightly superior.

Farang Restaurant is a long-time establishment founded by the former head chef of a five-star hotel. The menu features pasta dishes, pizza and some great meat dishes. The food is exceptional and, for the price, it’s a real shining light among places to eat in Phuket.

The pasta dishes are especially good, as is the beef sirloin. The presentation is really out of this world for such a small restaurant. Most of the dishes are fusion meals, with a few Thai offerings thrown in for a local touch. A rarity among Phuket eateries, the house wine is palatable, too.

Farang Restaurant can also lay claim to serving up the best brownies in Phuket, as well as a fantastic apple tart.
