Come to Phuket… To Find a Wife?

June 4th, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

phuket_shoreIs Phuket the ideal place to find a good wife? Our answer is yes. Phuket is a beautiful island off the coast of Thailand where you’ll notice a large number of Thai – Western couples. You may notice during your stay, that within schools and playgrounds, there are many children of mixed ethnicity happily playing with local Thai children. A complete generation of culturally diverse children are growing up to be a large asset of Phuket’s tourist industry. The trend of mixed marriage in Phuket has exploded over the last decade. The main reason behind this is Phuket’s tourist trade and readily available sex.

Every year more than a million of western tourists visit Phuket and it is natural that some percentage of those people will fall in love with locals, especially since many Thai women are so appealing. But this can not be the only reason behind it; there’s more to it than just physical attraction. The Caribbean, US and Mediterranean attracts millions of tourists but there you will not find so many mixed marriages as you will find in a small place like Phuket. There are many female tourists also in Phuket but few of them prefer to settle there; meanwhile the number of male tourists that prefer to settle in Phuket is countless. So, we can draw a conclusion;  there are many male tourists who really come to Phuket to find a wife than any thing else.

Many men are dissatisfied with their experiences of women in their own country. Presently, women have become very confident, assertive and very demanding in the relationship. and they expect a lot from their partners. The more old-fashioned, traditional men really do not like it. They want feminine, devoted wives. But you still cannot apply the same formula for all the men who marry Thai girls and settle in Phuket. They all have their own story. But to make a broad generalisation, you can place these men in three groups. This may happen anywhere in the world but our first group, is men that fall in love in Phuket because the girls are a novelty;  Thai girls are charming and attractive, and mostly, new to the men who love them.

The second group of men fall tn love with bargirls; these women work in the sex industry, they know very well how to sell themselves and attract men to them. This group men pick up a bargirl just to have sex and enjoy the holidays but at the end of holidays attachment becomes so strong that he falls in love. The third group of men come prepared to find a wife in Phuket.  Some try to pick up a girl from sex industry, so they try using agencies or Internet matching services. All of these group have feeling that life in Phuket with Thai wife would be better than present life in his country. Another sub-group, of this category, are those men who come to Phuket for work or to take abreak from work and fall in love with Thai girls and just end up settling down there.

Phuket: One of the Hottest Gay Destinations in the World!

May 31st, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

gay phuketThe Land of Smiles, Thailand is a Mecca for gays. With almost ninety percent of its population following Buddhism, there is not much judgement and certainly no protest against homosexuals. It is advised that westerners conduct some small research into the country’s traditions before going on tours because it may be a bit hard for them to take in all of a sudden. So it is best to prepare. That is, two people of same sex walking down the road holding hands might be taken as a simple friendship but two people of opposite sexes sexually mingling in the public is totally unacceptable.

Nudity in public is especially reacted upon by the officials as well as the civilians though what happens behind a closed door is a private matter. Never touch another’s head, as the head is considered to be sacred. Even pointing your feet at someone is considered as an act of dark magic or ill omen. The mood of the trip will be as the traveler chooses. It can be relaxing or active depending upon your own desires. Though the most popular attraction has been the ever active night life. The pubs, boy bars and go-go clubs that have been popping up all over the place are amazing.

All these make Phuket one of the hottest gay destinations. But there are places like Koh Samui where you can get the laid back traditional Thailand feel along with a little bit of night life though much more to a lesser degree than that of the cities. Catching a drag performance, visiting a Buddhist temple, and are other gay activities available. You can go on gay tours as well. The best time for a trip to Thailand is between November and February as the rest of the year is unpleasantly hot. While planning your gay vacations, keep in mind that the country offers three separate gay pride festivals. So what is not to like about this place? The food is great, great hangouts and night life and most of all, they don’t judge you or interfere with your “private matters”.

It teems with tourists even in the off seasons. Northeast monsoon is the best time for families as the sea would be calm and smooth. On the other hand, the slightly rough choppy sea of the south west monsoon is perfect for the adventure seekers and adrenaline junkies. This makes this beach a tourist destination for the whole year round. Patong is a destination that caters to tourists of luxury to backpacker crowd.

Due to the development in the infrastructure, Patong is home to many restaurants, hotels and pubs. It can be safely said that one will never run out of things to do in this place. You can be from the luxury circle or from the common circle, Patong cares for you just the way you need it to. Catering to this wide range of tourists has let Patong grow phenomenally. For those who just want to lay down kick back and relax, there are activities like sun bathing and Thai Massage. Local masseurs will be occupying the shady parts of the beach.

Sound Phuket packs up and leaves the island

May 28th, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

It was a shame to hear that Sound Phuket, the lavish nightclub brought to the island by the people behind Bed Supperclub, has closed its doors after only one year. Phuket’s nightlife scene hasn’t progressed much in the past couple of years and the owners of Sound clearly have little faith in the island considering how quickly they’ve pulled out.

It was perhaps not a great surprise given the club’s odd location, massive size and predictable DJ lineup playing predictable music. Stereo Lab is by all accounts still the place to be, while Hollywood and Seduction in Patong remain as strong as ever.

So long, Sound. And next time, give your barstaff at least a couple of weeks warning before you make them redundant.

Pit Stop in Phuket

May 24th, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

18_beach_and_stopsignIf you’re planning a day trip to the beautiful island of Phuket in Thailand, be aware now, that although it is possible to enjoy it in 24 hours, you’ll still want to stay a full week to enjoy this  wonderful place. But, what if you have only about a day to spend there? Here is a suggestion: Go through this article and you can be sure that you will not miss the best places and attractions in Phuket. Even if it turns out to be a one day trip, you have to stay somewhere. Look for a hotel in the phuket town. Patong might not be the best option for you especially if your trip is not going to keep you too long in the island.

Phuket Town is not as busy as the other places but there are certain great sites that you should see there. Now you have to think about your transportation. Given the limited time you have, you are not going to have enough time to spend with a tour group. In that case you can rent a motorcycle which you can drive all along the city with ease. This also happens to be the cheapest option. Do visit the Wat Chalong temple which is said to be one of the best attractions the island has to offer. There is a 60 meter chedi that would serve as an excellent photographic spot. From there you can go to the hill nearby which has the giant Buddha statue.

You will not be disappointed with the hills as they provide breathtaking views that are both romantic and exciting. Promthep cape is the best place in this island for a beautiful sunset. You can go to that place from the hills in less than an hour. Promthep cape attracts hosts of tourists but you won’t feel too overcrowded. When the dinner time comes you should be kicking yourself if you are not hungry! Cycling through the island will definitely give you a voracious appetite which you can handle with a dinner at the national restaurant near Rasada Road circle. You can have a taste of the Thai night life by visiting KorTorMor which is a local club. Wrap up the trip by tasting the street food of Thailand for breakfast!

Your Phuket Visa

May 24th, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

phuket_airport22[1]Phuket is the largest island in Thailand, located in the Adaman Sea along the west coast of Southern Island. You can enter the island through Phuket International Airport or by traveling through Bangkok. If you are planning on a stay of 60 days or more you have to apply for the visa through the Thai embassy before your arrival. Tourists from visa exemption countries  only require a passport for travel. There are about 40 to 50 countries in this list, but the stay cannot exceed 30 days. Thailand also has bilateral agreements with many countries. Tourists from these countries may be exempt from visa for a period of up to 90 days.

It is better to call up any travel agency or consulate office or embassy to get exact, detailed information as to whether or not your country is on that list. The lists on the internet may not be updated. There are also limits on these visa exemptions, for example, in some cases your stay cannot extend 90 days in a 180 day period. If you have arrived on the first of January you can stay for 90 days, then you cannot come back for another 90 days. Visa laws in Phuket used to be a little more liberal, but tourists started taking advantage of the country’s leniency. So Thailand updated their Phuket visa laws in order to bring more stability, and control to the tourist industry, and immigration issues.

You can also get visas on arrival from international check points in Phuket. These are issued for only 15 days. They can cost you about 1000 Baht. It’s a good deal if you just plan on stopping by on your way to another vacation destination. In order to receive an ‘on-arrival visa’ of 15 days you need to prove a minimum balance of 10000 baht if you are alone and about 20000 baht if you are with family. They will also check your passports to see your travel plans and check your travel tickets. Resident visas can also be obtained for setting up residence in Phuket. Like in any other country, if you are caught without a visa you can get in serious trouble. You have to go through a lot of hassle to manage and pay a bunch of fines. So if you know that you are going to Phuket it is better to arrange for the visa before arrival. If you are from the exempted countries then don’t worry, go ahead and have fun!

Phuket tourism for dummies

February 24th, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

The island of Phuket in the south of Thailand is the country’s most popular destination for tourists. In bygone years Phuket was a major port on the trade route between India and China; its chief exports were tea and rubber. Today it is the wealthiest province in Thailand due to the burgeoning Phuket tourism.
.
The Phuket International Airport is the second largest in Thailand, with plenty of direct flights and cheap charters to other major transportation hubs. The population is largely Muslim, with a mix of Buddhists and Thai-Chinese, and English is widely spoken and understood in the main Phuket tourism areas.

Phuket Town, the largest city on the island, is just about the only city without a beach or multiple beaches. That city serves as a base for Phuket tourism to other areas, with a variety of accommodations and access to the beaches and other attractions all over the island.

Most of the hotels and resorts in other areas offer shuttle bus service to and from Phuket Town, and there are a lot of local taxi services, but visitors are advised to beware of price gougers, since many are inclined to increase the fare to get more than their fair share of Phuket tourism income.

Phuket and its neighbouring small islands offer some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving to be found anywhere, with warm clear waters and bountiful coral reefs in both shallow and deep water.

The climate is hot and humid year round, and there is no season when water sports of all kinds are not alluring. Even during the monsoon season (from May to October) the days are clear and sunny until late afternoon.

A few of the major highlights for Phuket tourism visitors include such differing attractions as the Big Buddha, covered completely in white Burmese marble tiles and overlooking Chalong Bay from its 400m hill, and the Simon Cabaret, a spectacular showcase for transvestites who could arguably turn many a runway model green with envy.

Another growing Phuket tourism attraction is the wide variety of world-class spas located in just about every area of the island. The amenities and treatments range from the ancient to the modern with every combination thereof, and most are the equivalent or better than those found in major cosmopolitan centres around the world, at considerably lower prices.

Rang Yai Island

February 22nd, 2010  Posted by Phuket Vogue

Many travelers visit Phuket and complain that the main beaches are overcrowded, too touristy and lacking that special something we all desire. The simple solution is to head to your own private island. Luckily for all of us, it’s not as expensive or difficult as you might think. Phuket has plenty of hidden germs just waiting to be discovered.

You’ll find one such gem about 15 minutes from Phuket’s east coast. A visit to Rang Yai Island is an affordable way to experience your own private, tropical resort. Located on just 275 rai of land, Rang Yai Island boasts white sands, inviting waters and a dense jungle.

Getting to Rang Yai Island is a piece of cake. You can take a speed boat from either Sapam Bay or Laem Hin.

It’s the ideal place to visit on a day excursion or for a unique camping opportunity because the island is full of things to do and points of interest. One of the best things about Rang Yai Island is the pearl farm, known as Phuket Pearl Farm.

When you arrive at Rang Yai Island, you will be greeted and presented with a fresh coconut before being taking to a live demonstration of how pearls are cultured and harvested at the farm. The step-by-step explanation of how the pearls are formed and then turned into the precious stones we know today is fascinating. You’ll learn all about oysters and the farm itself.

As you’d expect, where there are pearls there is business and there is ample opportunity to buy pearls in their various guises at the island’s own pearl store. Phuket Pearl Farm’s treasures are also exported all over the world. There’s no pressure to buy pearls, but if you’re a pearl fan or after a suitable present for you mum, the convenience is there to be used.

The island is small enough to have its own trail around the perimeter. Bikes can be hired and the whole island can be circumnavigated in less than half an hour. If you want to make it last a bit longer, there are some tucked-away spots at which you could stop off and enjoy the views. The trail is easy-going without too many steep slopes.

With the island being owned by one company, Richy Island Phuket, there is only one resort and restaurant. Thankfully, the food is top notch, with a wide range of delicious dishes offering some of the best Thai food around. The seafood in particular is as good as anywhere on mainland Phuket. Fresh prawns, fried fish and other marine delights will satisfy your taste buds. Meals by the sea as the sun sets are particularly memorable.

The beach at Rang Yai is charming and clean and the water, although not 100% clear, is warm and a joy to swim in. If water sports are your thing, there are kayaks available for people to paddle about in.

One of the focal points of the island is the number of recreational activities that have been made available without imposing on the natural charms of the island itself. Everything from darts and petanque, to volleyball and golf can be played at Rang Yai Island. The on-site putting course is a cute touch and great for whiling away an afternoon.

Rang Yai Island isn’t a hive of activity. It’s a place to go, relax and enjoy the scenery. It attracts many couples and there is even the option of getting married on the island. A number of lovers have chosen to say their vows on Rang Yai Island. What could be more romantic than saying “I do” in the seclusion of your own private paradise? The wedding team can cater to your every desire should you decide to take the plunge.

Most people visit Rang Yai Island on a day excursion and there are a number of packages available. You will be picked up from your hotel and taken from your doorstep to the island. The half-day excursion includes a live pearl demonstration and time at the beach, as well as snacks and refreshments.

A full-day excursion includes the live pearl demonstration and an extended time to relax on the beach or get involved with activities such as snorkeling. Half-day excursions cost 1,200 baht for adults, 600 baht for children, while full-day excursions cost between 1,600 baht and 2,200 baht for adults, between 800 baht and 1,100 baht for children.

Rang Yai offers the perfect island getaway and the ideal retreat from mainland Phuket. A night in one of the bungalows will set you back 1,000 baht. For further information visit www.rangyaiisland-phuket.com or call 076-239893-4, 076-238565-6.
